2019-11-14T03:07:53.237Z

Despite his escape to Mexico, Evo Morales obviously does not want to part with Bolivia's power so easily: he still sees himself as president - and has a simple reason for doing so.

How to continue with Bolivia? The country is still in a very tense situation, there is always violence on the streets. And the overall political situation is anything but clear. Now Evo Morales has spoken again.

In his opinion, despite his resignation, he is still president of Bolivia. Parliament must either accept or reject the resignation, he said on Wednesday, one day after his arrival in Mexican exile, in an interview with the Spanish newspaper El País. "As long as it does not, I'm still president."

The Senate and the Chamber of Deputies of Bolivia had recently been unable to establish a quorum, as the parliamentarians of Morales MAS party boycotted the meeting.

If his resignation were confirmed, after the resignation of his vice-president, the President of the Senate, Adriana Salvatierra, was constitutionally in the position of head of state, Morales continued. This had indeed declared on Sunday on television resignation; On Wednesday, however, she also complained that her resignation had not come into force due to lack of acceptance by Parliament.

The second vice president of the Senate, Jeanine Añez, declared herself interim president on Tuesday. This violates the constitution, said Morales, who speaks of a coup against him. However, the Constitutional Court has approved the takeover of Añez as lawful. The 52-year-old has to organize a new election within 90 days.

Dead on the streets of the country

Morales had resigned after massive protests and pressure from the military on Sunday just three weeks after his controversial re-election. The Socialist had declared himself the winner in the first round after the vote on October 20, despite opposition and international observers accusing him of electoral fraud.

However, the country does not rest. In violent clashes between supporters of Morales, the new interim government and the security forces, two people have died in Bolivia. The two young men were shot in the Santa Cruz Department in the east of the country, the forensic department of the Prosecutor General's Office said on Wednesday.

Thus, the number of fatalities in the riots that have been going on for three weeks has increased to a total of ten. In various parts of the country there were looting and arson attacks.
