Greta Thunberg sails with creators Riley Whitelum and Elayna Carausu

Doubly prominent: the family that Greta Thunberg takes across the Atlantic on her sailboat are no strangers. On YouTube, the couple with child follow more than a million people.

In videos, Riley Whitelum and Elayna Carausu document their sailing trips around the world. On YouTube, more than 1.17 million people have subscribed to their channel and are watching the scenes of the catamaran "La Vagabonde". The Australian couple, who travel with his eleven-month-old son Lenny, are not just looking for beautiful pictures.

With their videos, they want to draw attention to the importance of the ocean and inspire others to try alternative ways of life. Its 14-meter-long catamaran is equipped with solar panels and hydropower generators to make the journey as emission-free as possible. This should have convinced even Greta Thunberg, who was looking for a Rückfahrgelegenheit over the Atlantic.

The Swede refuses to board a plane for reasons of climate protection. Basically, this was the only passage by ship from the US East Coast.

Thunberg had boarded a boat in Plymouth, southern England at the end of August, to sail from the German sailing professional Boris Herrmann to New York, where she attended the United Nations Climate Summit in September. Tweeted, she was looking for a way to get to Madrid, where the next UN Climate Change Conference will take place from 2 December. The Australian couple had then reported.

So happy to say I'll hopefully make it to COP25 in Madrid.

Father Svante on board

Also on board are the English professional skipper Nikki Henderson and Thunberg's father Svante. He had been there in August on the way there. Hermann fell for a transatlantic race with his yacht "Malizia" this time as a possible sailor on Greta Thunberg's side.

Now it's back with the YouTube pair. Start of the trip should be on Wednesday from the US state of Virginia. "We're sailing to Europe tomorrow morning!" Thunberg wrote on Twitter on Tuesday. The popularity of Riley Whitelum and Elayna Carausu should increase the media-effective Fahre in any case further.
