Eleven people were injured when a sound bomb exploded near al-Haboubi square in central Nasiriyah in Dhi Qar province in southern Iraq.
Al-Sumeria News website quoted an Iraqi security source as saying that "a sound bomb exploded near al-Haboubi Square in central Nasiriyah, injuring 11 people."
The source added that "a security force cordoned off the scene and the injured were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment."
Earlier in the day, Iraqi Defense Minister Najah al-Shammari announced the existence of gangs using weapons and deadly smoke bombs targeting demonstrators and security forces .
Some Iraqi cities and provinces have been witnessing weeks of protests demanding better public services, the elimination of unemployment and the fight against corruption.
