After a long dispute, the government has passed the Climate Protection Act. For the bill, which contains emissions targets for different economic sectors, the majority voted in favor of the coalition, while the opposition factions voted against.
Each ministry is responsible for reaching the targets over the next few years. This is to ensure that Germany saves about 55 percent of greenhouse gases by 2030 compared to 1990 levels. Currently, the Federal Republic lags behind its goals and has only just reached 30 percent.
