(CNN) - Some Instagram users worldwide will have to say goodbye to their likes.
On Thursday, Instagram announced that it is expanding its month-long test to the rest of the world to hide the “like” figure, moving the company to formally implement an essential change in the way users interact with this photo sharing platform .
Instagram had already tried to eliminate likes in several countries, including Australia, Brazil and Canada. Last week, the company said that I like them would also be hidden for some users in the United States.

Users who are part of the test will no longer see the total number of likes and views in photos and videos in the feed, nor in the profile pages. However, you can still see how many likes I received your own publications.
"While the comments of the first tests have been positive, this is a fundamental change on Instagram, so we continue our test to learn more about our global community," a Facebook spokesman, Instagram owner, said in a statement.
Users can still like the content by double clicking on a photo or video, or by pressing the "heart" below a post, but a total will not appear in the amount of likes.
Then, when an account you follow has liked someone else's photo, it will say “[Instagram account name] and others” below the post where I would normally like them. Users can then click to see only a list of accounts that liked the post.

Several CNN Business users spoke and expressed relief about the measure. But the changes could create challenges for social media influencers who make a living online and force them to adapt some of their strategies.
"We understand that the number of likes is an important metric for many creators, and although this test is in exploratory stages, we are thinking of ways for creators to communicate value to their interlocutors," a Facebook spokesman told CNN Business.
It remains to be seen if Instagram will hide the likes permanently.
