(CNN Spanish) - The president of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega, referred to the political situation that Bolivia is going through and said that given the lack of confidence in the electoral process “the people will feel with the right, the obligation to take up arms to seize power by revolutionary means ”. However, these statements unleashed criticism in his country.
In Managua, the leaders of the opposition spaces Civic Alliance for Justice and Democracy and the Blue and White National Unity lamented this Friday the president's words. "It is another example of the intolerance and hatred that this regime is doing with Nicaraguan society," said Juan Sebastián Chamorro, of the Civic Alliance for Justice and Democracy.
For his part, Violeta Granera, of the Blue and White National Unit, said: “What is happening with all these threatening and intimidating speeches, is a sign of the great fear that the regime has, because they know that their days are numbered and how they have not succeeded in beating the people of Nicaragua, they are increasing their intimidation and threat campaign. ”
On July 19, President Ortega closed the possibility of advancing the General Elections scheduled for 2021, for which he said he was ready. The opposition insists on conducting free, transparent and advanced elections to overcome the socio-political crisis that Nicaragua has been experiencing since April 2018.
After the cancellation of the second attempt at a dialogue with the opposition in June this year, Ortega asked the Organization of American States to continue the work of electoral reforms. The regional agency does not officially respond to that request.
