Andrei Krasov, deputy chairman of the Defense Committee of the State Duma, said that the United States is practicing sanctions policy against countries that have a foreign policy contrary to their policies in order to promote their economic and geopolitical interests.
"Washington's threat to Egypt with sanctions if it buys Su-35 fighter jets is an unfair attempt to compete in the arms market," Krasov was quoted by the RIA Novosti news agency as saying.
Alexei Kondratev, a member of the International Committee of the Council of the Russian Federation, said US statements against Egypt contradict international arms trade rules.
"Washington has no right to interfere in commercial transactions. This is not allowed. We need to go in the diplomatic track and expand cooperation with other countries and provide them with our weapons," Kondratev told the agency. .
The Wall Street Journal has revealed that US Defense Secretary Mark Esper and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo warned Egypt against buying Russian Su-35 fighter jets.
Russia's Kommersant newspaper reported on April 25 that Russia and Egypt had signed a contract to supply the latter with 35 Sukhoi fighter jets under which they would get more than 20 fighters for $ 2 billion and deliveries could begin in 2020-2021.
