New York-Sana
The United Nations General Assembly voted today by 170 votes in favor of a resolution renewing the mandate of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in accordance with the formula given in its resolution 302 of 1949 for three new years from 2020 to 2023.
The General Assembly's Special Political Committee, the Fourth Committee, overwhelmingly adopted the resolution renewing the mandate of UNRWA by 170 votes in favor, while the United States and the occupying power opposed, while seven abstained.
In this regard, the Permanent Representative of Palestine to the United Nations, Riyad Mansour, said that the overwhelming majority on the anniversary of the declaration of independence of the State of Palestine on the decision to renew the mandate of UNRWA is a reminder of the failure of all attempts to liquidate the Palestinian cause and break the determination of the steadfast Palestinian people on their land.
Mansour called on the international community to hold the occupation entity accountable for its crimes, stressing that the world, with its absolute majority, still rallies around the just positions of the Palestinian people and their cause, international law and international legitimacy.
