In a statement to SANA, Eng. Bashar Al-Ashqar, head of the city council, explained that banks and rain grills did not absorb the amount of heavy rainfall and drainage in light of the sloping nature of the city, which led to the occurrence of floods and bottlenecks and the entry of water to a large number of houses, basements and ground floors in various locations of the city pointing The council, fire brigade and civil defense workshops were mobilized to deal with bottlenecks, pumping water and diverting it through digging a number of corridors during the night hours and continuing work to deal with the remaining cases.
Al-Ashqar pointed out that several sites witnessed bottlenecks and damage to homes, especially in the housing of the Greens, police, teachers, Kuwait Street, Al-Wahda, Al-Hurriya, Al-Thawra, Qanat road, North Shula Square, West Corniche, Al-Thagha, Al-Thaleh, the surroundings of the National Hospital, Red Crescent, shoe factory, west of the stadium roundabout and others.
In turn, the head of the Civil Defense Operations Department Colonel Ayman Al-Abdullah pointed to the mobilization of all crews and pumps, responding and dealing with 15 cases of water entry to houses and basements during the night hours to remove the damage while continuing the work of suction water in other locations, while the assistant commander of the fire brigade Suwayda Nidal Abboud To handle and pump water from more than 20 houses within the city.
