(CNN Spanish) - Five dead is the balance of the hard confrontations recorded during the afternoon of this Friday between demonstrators and security forces at the entrance of the city of Cochabamba, in the homonymous department, in the center of Bolivia. The deaths were apparently coca growers and were confirmed to CNN by Nelson Cox, defender of the People of Bolivia.
In addition, about 125 people would have been admitted to different medical centers, while more than 120 people had been arrested.
The clashes began on the bridge between the municipality of Sacaba and Cochabamba and after a group of 400 coca growers tried to reach the square September 14, in the center of Cochabamba. But a barricade formed by local military and police prevented them from passing and tried to convince them not to move forward.
Jaime Zurita, departmental commander of the police, assured the ABI agency that the protesters threw “Molotov bombs” at the uniformed men and even shot them with “homemade bazucas”.
In that line, the police chief explained that they had to use tear gas and that there are several injured among the ranks of the security forces.
