French police have cracked down on demonstrations against the policies of President Emmanuel Macron and used tear gas to disperse protesters and arrested 61 people.
"61 people were arrested today and arrests are continuing," Paris police chief Didier Lemont told a news conference.
The previous toll indicated today the arrest of 24 people near the stations of Port-de-Chanbrier and Jar Dostrlits, south of the capital Paris.
The French Interior Ministry has deployed more than 2,500 police and riot police, as well as equipped vehicles and fire engines to counter the demonstrators, some of whom blocked key roads in Paris for some time before they reopened.
Clashes took place between police and demonstrators in Place d'Italie, including the use of tear gas.
It is expected that a number of demonstrators later to protest in front of a number of companies and large shops such as Apple and Nike.
