Donald Trump's hotel, which was for a time the venue for the G7 summit next year, was evidently not mentioned on the original list of possible accommodations. This emerges from an e-mail published by Citizens before Responsibility and Ethics in Washington.
First of all, therefore, ten other resorts have been checked by the Secret Service, according to the document from 12 July. Only then was the first time the view fell on Trumps Hotel. The plant presented the security authorities "a few challenges," it says in the letter. And: the president had visited the place in the past. "Visited" in this case means that the "Trump National Doral" belongs to the hotel empire of the US President.

At this resort, the G7 summit should take place: the Trump National Doral in Miami
At the last G7 summit in August, Trump first publicly expressed the idea of hosting the meeting in the "National Doral" in 2020. The Secret Service visited resorts across the country and then proposed the Miami site as a venue, Trump said. "It's not about me, it's about finding the right location."
Even the White House chief of staff, Mick Mulvaney, praised the Doral at that time. "It's almost as if they had specially built this facility to host such an event," he said.
Loud criticism, even from Republicans
Mulvaney announced in October that the summit of the seven major industrialized nations would take place at the "Trump National Doral" in Miami because it was the best venue for the meeting. Mulvaney also ruled out a conflict of interest for the US president. Only a few days later, the US government abandoned the plan. The hotel in Miami is no longer considered a summit, Trump tweeted. Previously, there had been massive criticism, not only from Democrats, but also from the Republican ranks.

Trump has often been reprimanded in the past for using his property for official purposes and thereby benefiting financially. Already when Trump presented his plan, a high-ranking member of the Finance Committee said with Ron Wayden that the G7 summit at Trump's Resort was "one of the most egregious examples of corruption and doing business with itself."
