Lebanese Army Commander General Joseph Aoun has confirmed that the army is responsible for the security of demonstrators and other citizens in Lebanon.
Aoun said during a visit to Lebanese army units deployed in Beirut and Mount Lebanon that carry out security missions in light of popular movements in a number of Lebanese areas that “the recent arrests included elements that worked to cause a riot and confronted the army and tried to prevent him from carrying out his missions and also subjected him to people. Non-Lebanese and others were found to have illegal drugs and substances. ”
Aoun called for avoiding rumors aimed at misleading public opinion and creating a rift between the citizens and the military establishment, stressing that the Lebanese army remains fully prepared and aware of the challenges facing Lebanon.
