The protesters of the yellow jackets renewed their demonstrations in Paris and a number of French cities in commemoration of the first anniversary of their protest movements condemning President Emmanuel Macron's economic and social policies and demanding his resignation.

Hundreds of demonstrators gathered in central Paris on Sunday, holding banners denouncing Macron's policies at all levels and addressing the French saying "Macron is destroying France and your rights" and "We are here for you," according to AFP.

Protests led by the yellow jackets movement in France began on November 17 to condemn the rise in fuel prices and the cost of living and to demand the removal of taxes approved by the French government, which the movement sees as depleting the working and middle classes, while strengthening the rich class to the extent of calling for Macron to step down.

Fawzi Lelouch, one of the organizers of the move, condemned the crackdown by the French police, which led to the cancellation of a demonstration that was scheduled to start on Saturday from the Square of Italy in Paris, considering it a political decision.

French police cracked down on the demonstrations of the "yellow jackets" movement yesterday using tear gas to disperse the protesters and arrested 61 people.

French historian Mathilde Larrer, who took part in the demonstration yesterday on her Twitter page, recounted how French police prevented her from leaving Italy's square through the tear gas cloud that was spreading in the place, condemning the repression that is not worthy of a democratic state.

In Savoie, southeast of France, groups of French people commemorated activist Chantal Mazier, who died on the first day of protests after being hit by a car.

As the Macron government ignored the demands of the French protesters, the social and economic life of the French Interior Minister Christophe Castaner described the protesters of the yellow jackets, which came out mass demonstrations yesterday on the first anniversary of the start of their protests "thugs and naughty."

Over the past 12 months, hundreds of thousands of French people took part in protests, which police met with severe repression.
