(CNN) - A man accidentally shot his brother while hunting deer in Michigan over the weekend.
The two men were hunting in Boston Township, about 130 miles northwest of Detroit, and were looking for a deer that one of the brothers had shot before, a statement from the Ionia County Sheriff's Office said.
By 5:30 pm they had exhausted their search and separated into a dense cornfield, the sheriff's office said.
The shooter believed he saw a deer moving through the corn plantation and fired a rifle impacting his brother, according to the sheriff's office.
After calling 911, both brothers left the camp and met with the first responders.
The injured brother was taken to Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids in serious but stable condition, the sheriff's office said.
While the exact cause of the shot has not been confirmed, both brothers have fully cooperated with investigators, according to the sheriff's office.
