The General Authority of Damascus Hospital is working to put a new ambulance service in the service by the end of this year adopts international standards in terms of screening patients and follow-up and care for them, according to its director Dr. Haitham Husseini.
Al-Husseini told SANA that the new ambulance department will be in a separate building to facilitate the screening of patients, especially in cases of accidents and emergencies, classifying them according to the degree of severity, diagnosing their condition in the first moments and providing appropriate treatment, whether surgical or medicinal.
The capacity of the new department reaches 1200 patients within an area that ensures the comfort of the patients and medical staff with the presence of infrastructure that meets the needs of the disabled, according to the director of the hospital, who indicated that the reception of cases will be in accordance with an electronic role, pointing out that the old ambulance department will be used to expand other sections of the hospital.
Damascus Hospital, which opened in 1955, has 28 departments and departments covering all specialties except cardiovascular surgery and obstetrics and gynecology and has 500 beds with an average occupancy rate of between 80 and 100 percent.
As for the hospital services in general, Husseini said that about 30 operations of various types of general and qualitative, such as orthopedics, brain and vascular surgery and limbs are being performed daily and seeks to develop liver transplantation.
The director of the hospital pointed to the development of a new magnetic resonator device to become the number of two devices and will be equipped with a CT scanner soon to have a CT scanner with the work continue to modernize a third device by a competent company.
Al-Husseini pointed out that admission in the hospital ranges between free and semi-free, therefore witnessing a large turnout of patients due to the high cost of investigation and treatment services in private hospitals, noting that the cost of the tonsillectomy in the hospital about 4 thousand pounds compared to about 70 thousand pounds in private hospitals and that occupancy The intensive care beds are always high for the same reasons.
In addition to medical services, the Damascus Hospital is concerned with the educational field that targets the resident physicians, which currently number about 1,200 doctors.It is also interested in scientific research based on the statistics recorded and the clinical cases it handles, according to its director, who pointed to the preparation of scientific research on the management of war accidents and the characterization of cases and types of surgeries that have been provided.
Al-Husseini stressed that the number of specialists in the hospital is sufficient in terms of quantity and quality, pointing to the shortage of nursing staff as a result of the conditions imposed by the terrorist war on Syria, revealing in this regard the preparation for the announcement of a competition beginning next year to provide technical staff by about 120 workers between a nurse and laboratory technician and radiation.
According to the statistics of the Authority for the current year, the number of specialized clinics visitors exceeded 156 thousand patients and the ambulance department 177 thousand cases by the end of last September and conducted during the same period 9 thousand surgical work and 5800 dialysis sessions and 4581 magnetic resonance imaging and more than 6,000 axial classes.
