Ambassador Fawzi: Strengthening relations with Syria, which stood by us

Damascus, (SANA) - The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Damascus held a reception on the occasion of the 74th anniversary of its Independence Day

The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Damascus held a reception to mark the 74th anniversary of its Independence Day at Dama Rose Hotel.

In a speech during the ceremony, Indonesian Ambassador to Damascus Wajid Fawzi affirmed his country's desire to strengthen relations between the two countries.

The Indonesian ambassador said that Syria stood with his country 74 years ago during its struggle for independence, expressing his hope that Syria will recover from the crisis it has suffered during the past years.

In turn, Deputy Foreign Minister and Expatriates Dr. Faisal Miqdad reiterated the depth of the friendly relations between the two countries for more than 72 years, during which the two countries provided mutual support in various issues of concern to their peoples. Syria supported Indonesia's independence in the late 1940s while Indonesia supported Syria in its war on Terrorism.

During the ceremony, Garyatari Nusantara performed a number of Indonesian traditional dances, including the Dish of West Sumatra and Teva of East Nusa Tenggara.

The ceremony was attended by Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Rima Kadri, Minister of Tourism Mohamed Rami Martini, Minister of Communications and Technology Iyad Al-Khatib, a number of members of the People's Assembly, representatives and heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Damascus and religious, cultural, economic and media activities.
