Greens on the Road to Power: The State Party

2019-11-18T17:05:19.421Z

If the Greens are in government after the next federal election, it is not because they want to force change on this society: green is the desire for stability.

column

The old sayings do not pull anymore, the times have changed, because you have to think of something new, the old at least vary a bit. "We only borrowed the world from our children" - that was the Greens' insistence forty years ago, party leader Annalena Baerbock said to the party folk in Bielefeld, adding innovatively: "Today is our job to give them back. "

Also for this sentence there was plenty of applause for the finally elected Baerbock with record results, but what should he mean? Baerbock was not born forty years ago, so one of those future children who gave the world back then. If she reclaims the globe, does that mean a claim to power by a current generation of Greens who finally want to have the shots where their parents used to knit, breastfeed, stink and demonstrate against nuclear power? Or did Baerbock, now a full-blown party leader, want to express that all power now has to pass to today's children, presumably the "Fridays for Future" generation that demands radical steps to comply with the Paris Climate Agreement? But have not these children just borrowed the world from the children who come after them?

"Left" is no longer a category for the Greens

It remains a little unclear, but sounds good, and at least new and ready to act. Co-party leader Robert Habeck had already given the subject in his opening speech: "Make Hope Real", so finally implement what was previously only theorized. For some, that may sound like a threat, they do not need to be afraid. A takeover of the country by the right fight concept ensprechend, "left-green Versiffte" is not alone just because imminent, because in Bielefeld recognizable nobody was disgusting unkempt and sloppy on the podium. And also because "left" is no longer a category that can be applied to today's Greens.

Since the CSU country group leader Alexander Dobrindt still so worried in his linguistic Mottenkiste rummage and reproach the Greens again, they took "deep into their ideological moth box". As Dobrindts party leader Markus Söder can remind them the march "into a left corner": When the last Stammtisch claim tapped, the next election campaign beaten and the last ballot is delivered, they will recognize also with the CSU that the Greens more than ever to the became ideal coalition partners of the Union. In fact, apart from the CSU, they are probably the only truly conservative, the actual state party of the country.

With all the design claim formulated by Baerbock and Habeck in Bielefeld, it always seemed through: The Greens want to shape themselves in order to preserve them. They do climate protection so that we all continue to feel good and we can feel good. Although Habeck explicitly called for a "policy that seeks to break away from the status quo," it called for a "policy of enablement" to "propel the big things forward." But recognizable only in response to the postulated inaction and lack of imagination of the current government.

Someone has to do the job yes

The Greens were not founded for that, they were once opposed to the system, said Habeck, but today they are and the circumstances are different: "We live in the best and freest republic that ever existed in Germany Republic and we make sure that it is not cleared by fascists, we become constitutional protectors! "

Someone has to do the job yes. When an actual former constitutional protection president actively pursues today the rightward shift of the Union to the cooperation with the AfD and their partially anti-democratic, subversive top staff. If the leader of the former state party CDU appears to be in such great distress that it must ventilate weekly blundering ideas in order to be perceived in the conservative debate at all. Once the SPD has to find a tip and then perhaps itself again. If the liberals are increasingly insulted acting on the edge and just do not want to take responsibility. Then it's up to the Greens to take care of prosperity and freedom.

Those who expect or fear an actual change of the republic from the Greens, can safely lie down again. Habeck begins his party speech as bravely as possible with the report of a church service, then calls for a republicanism, which he defines as "engaging in the rules of this country", wants to "rebalance" the market economy ecologically, and a humanity that "sees fit To understand wealth, to swim in seas, to walk in forests, and to negotiate with each other under the conditions of liberality and freedom. " It's nice.

For the virtual forest walk then meet the two party leaders and the group leader Katrin Göring-Eckardt on the podium, the background image gives the impression that they have gathered in a clearing. Habeck is dressed in black, Göring-Eckardt in red, Baerbock in yellow, this obviously deliberately staged image stands like no other for the Greens in 2019 on the way to power: Black-red-golden idyll in front of an artificially natural backdrop. In the iconic photo, the two ladies seem to adore their Robert. At the mouth Habeck holds a microphone. So completely without sound one would think that he sings the Germany song.
