Protests from "Fridays for Future": Laschet hopes that climate activists "move into the parliaments"

The CDU politician Armin Laschet is one of the critics of the climate summit of "Fridays for Future". Nevertheless, he wishes that the young activists themselves go into politics - and refers to his own career.

North Rhine-Westphalia's Prime Minister Armin Laschet has repeatedly criticized the young demonstrators of the "Fridays for Future" movement - now he sees this obviously a bit different.

He hopes that participants of the student protests for more climate protection go into politics, Laschet said in a debate initiated by the "Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger" with the Youtuber Dominik Porschen. The video was released on Porschens channel "Filmlounge".

"There was a time when people thought that the youth was no longer interested in politics," said Laschet. He himself was involved as a student of development justice between North and South. "That's how I came to politics," said the CDU politician. He hopes "that some of those who are now active, even at some point in the parliaments move."

Worldwide, the movement "Fridays for future" mobilizes people for climate protection. In Germany too, students and students regularly take to the streets on Fridays. Laschet had criticized at the beginning of the year, among other things, the protests during class time. At the end of October, he argued in a panel discussion organized by SPIEGEL with climate activist Luisa Neubauer.
