Demonstrations against the Government of Chile are one month old and have left at least 20 dead. To this, we add the more than 200 people who have suffered eye trauma due to the impacts of pellets in the middle of the riots. That is the case of Natalia Aravena, a young 24-year-old nurse, who lost her vision and much of her eyeball after receiving the impact of a projectile. Different national and international human rights organizations describe the events as a “strong police repression” during the demonstrations. Given this, Carabineros de Chile said that the police do not aim to produce any harm to civilians, but do not rule out that there are people affected by the action of the pellets. The Government also indicated that relevant investigations will be carried out to clarify the facts.
