(CNN) - A woman from Australia received 25 stitches on her face and was about to lose an eye after being attacked by a kangaroo while she was walking her dog.

The attack occurred near a well-known trail in the city of Wodonga, in the state of Victoria, according to 9News, a CNN affiliate channel. Dina, who did not reveal her last name, explained that she released her dog and he ran away to chase a large male kangaroo.

"I ran up the embankment to try to stop my dog, not realizing I was only three or four meters behind the kangaroo," Dina told 9News. "It was then that I felt that the kangaroo panicked at the thought: 'They are attacking me everywhere."

At that moment, she turned while the kangaroo attacked her from behind and threw her to the ground.

"It made a hole in the back of my leg, and if I hadn't turned around, I probably would have gutted," he added to 9News.

The kangaroo began to "hit" and jump on it, he said. She died and waited for the animal to finish attacking her.

Finally the kangaroo left and left her bleeding from the head, according to 7News, a CNN affiliate. A passerby helped her heal her wounds and took her to the hospital.

The woman suffered back injuries.

Dina needed 25 stitches on her face and gave thanks for not losing her eye. They also had to operate on leg injuries, but was already discharged, according to 9News. It still has scratches and cuts all over the back and arms.

Dina does not blame the kangaroo, because she says it was her dog that initiated the persecution and motivated the attack.

"Not at all" was the kangaroo's fault, he said. “In any case, we invade their habitat. I could feel his panic. I felt bad for the poor animal. ”

The kangaroo also injured his arms.

According to city authorities and agencies responsible for wildlife, kangaroos are increasingly approaching urban centers in the absence of water and food, according to 9News.
