(CNN Spanish) - On Tuesday, in Chile, a group of opposition deputies filed a constitutional accusation against President Sebastián Piñera for his alleged responsibility in “the serious and systematic violations of human rights committed by state agents in the last month "

The document was delivered in Congress after a month of social protests was held on Monday in the country, where protesters criticize the government for the high costs of living and demand the creation of a new Constitution.

According to the minutes delivered by the parliamentarians, the accusation “is structured on the basis of two accusatory chapters, the first that relates to the open violation of the Constitution and the laws when consenting to the systematic violation of human rights, and the second in which develops the thesis that the president of the Republic seriously compromised the honor of the nation ”.

The document should now be reviewed by a committee of parliamentarians, who will decide whether to declare admissible or not. If approved, it will be in the Chamber of Deputies and then the Senate where the corresponding votes will be held and where it will be defined whether there is guilt or not by Sebastián Piñera.

CNN communicated with the presidency in Chile, but chose not to comment.

The mobilizations, which began with a social outbreak on October 18, have so far left 21 dead and more than two thousand people injured.
