(CNN) - U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested a 16-year-old boy who allegedly used a remote-controlled car to try to smuggle methamphetamine across the U.S.-Mexico border, the agency said.
The teenager, a US citizen, was arrested Sunday after agents saw him carrying two large canvas bags and entering and leaving an agent's view, the US Customs and Border Protection Office said. UU. (CBP) in a statement.
He was found hidden among the thick weeds along the border. When they searched it, agents found a remote-controlled car and 50 packages of methamphetamine, CBP said.
The agency says that the 25 kilos (55.84 pounds) of methamphetamine seized have an estimated value of $ 106,096.
The agency says the teenager was discovered with 25 kilos of methamphetamines.
The teenager faces drug smuggling charges, according to the CBP statement.
"I am extremely proud of the increased vigilance and hard work of the agents to stop this unusual smuggling scheme," said San Diego sector patrol chief agent Douglas Harrison.

This drone was used in 2017 by a man to smuggle drugs at the border, according to CBP.
A similar event occurred in August 2017, when officers arrested a 25-year-old man for trying to smuggle drugs across the border with a remote-controlled drone.
The man was found with 6 kilos of methamphetamine, the agency said.
