The British Foreign Office called on the Israeli occupation entity to stop its settlement expansion, stressing that Israeli settlements are illegal under international law.
"Britain's position on the settlements is clear ... It is illegal under international law and represents an obstacle to peace," the Foreign Office said in a statement.
The statement comes after US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced a few days ago that the US administration does not consider the Israeli settlements in contradiction with international law, ignoring all international resolutions, especially Security Council resolution 2334 of 2016, which demands the occupation to stop immediately all settlement operations in the occupied Palestinian territories.
Earlier in the day, European members of the UN Security Council - Britain, France, Germany, Belgium and Poland - strongly criticized the US administration's stance on Israeli settlements in the Palestinian territories and in a joint statement called on the Israeli occupation entity to stop settlement operations.
