(CNN) - According to the American Automobile Association (AAA), 50 million people are expected to leave the roads, train tracks and skies during Thanksgiving week. However, two major storms could slow your journey to grandma's house. Keep in mind that Thanksgiving is a week away, and the forecast may change. But as of now, here is an early look at what to expect.

A storm will hit the Midwest

  • Low pressure will travel east of the Rocky Mountains during the day on Tuesday, bringing rapid snowfall to the plains before quickly strengthening and pointing to the Midwest.
  • Chicago will start with rain on Tuesday afternoon and then change to snow on Tuesday night. The snow should be out of Chicago by Wednesday morning.
  • Parts of Wisconsin and Michigan will receive a round of heavy snow on Tuesday and early Wednesday before clearing.

The other system moves west

A low pressure area will pump moisture to California on Wednesday night and throughout the day on Thursday, leaving Thanksgiving gray and sad.

  • The heaviest rains will be in southern California, from the Los Angeles area, to San Diego.
  • A quick snowfall will also cover the Sierras on Thursday.
  • A lot of rain and snow will leave the southwest on Friday.

What about the northeast and the Macy's parade?

There will be a round of rapid rain to the northeast on Wednesday, but it should clear for Thanksgiving.

After the system, temperatures will drop between 5 and 15 degrees Fahrenheit, so Thanksgiving will be cooler, but closer to average.

So far, the forecast seems dry for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. The beginning of the parade must occur under partly cloudy skies with temperatures below 4 degrees Celsius and a northwest wind of 16 to 24 km / h. Maximum temperatures above 5 degrees Celsius are expected.

Busiest travel season

The AAA expects this year to register the second largest number of travelers in at least a decade. The organization predicts an increase of 1.6 million travelers compared to last year, and most people will drive to their destination, thanks to lower gas prices.

Wednesday is expected to be the busiest traffic day. Atlanta, Los Angeles, New York, Boston, Houston and San Francisco could record more than three times their normal traffic on Wednesday.
