AfD party conference in Braunschweig: Several delegates want to tip extremism list

2019-11-22T15:07:58.579Z

AfD members must not belong to any extremist organizations - there is an incompatibility list. According to SPIEGEL information, several delegates want to have their party vote on their abolition.

Partisans of the AfD try to abolish the list of extremist organizations that are incompatible with AfD membership. Corresponding applications were submitted for the federal party conference next week. On the list of incompatibility are all extremist groups, whose membership AfD candidates have to give in their admission information. If a candidate fails to disclose the information, his / her national executive committee can cancel the AFD membership.

The topic has current explosiveness by the AfD Federal Board Andreas Kalbitz, who was before his time in the party member of the "Junge Landsmannschaft East Prussia", whose successor organization is on the list of incompatibility of the party. Whether Kalbitz stated this in his AfD application is unclear. At the time, the list of incompatibilities did not exist, but former memberships in extremist groups have always had to be stated by AfD contenders.

The applications were submitted, inter alia, by Stefan Räpple, a Baden-Württemberg AfD member of parliament, who belongs to the nationalist "wing" and runs against a party exclusion. Räpple calls the list a "relic from the gap-time". Should it not be abolished, he would like to at least delete the "identity movement" observed by the constitutional protection from the list so that it would not be "stigmatized".

In the party's proposals, the requests have caused concern. They urge you to reject the demands. "The applications have in my view, no chance of a majority at the party congress, and that's right," says party leader Jörg Meuthen. "The AfD is known for its open debates," said fraction leader Alice Weidel, the applications but they consider "counterproductive".

This topic comes from the new SPIEGEL magazine - available at the kiosk from Saturday morning and every Friday at SPIEGEL + and in the digital magazine edition.
