In the Indonesian city of Bandung, the authorities give away 2000 chicks to students to get the children away from their cell phones. According to news agency dpa, referring to the Indonesian newspaper "Kompas", Mayor Oded Danial kicked off the campaign with the motto "chicken-making" on Friday.
The first animals sat in the cradle in small cages, where a sign with the request "take care well on me" hung. More chicks will be distributed to primary and secondary schools in Bandung in the coming weeks.
"Our goal is not only to get the kids off the cell phones, but also to learn to love animals and take responsibility," said Danial. Have students feed the chicks in the morning before going to school and in the evening. "They will learn discipline," believes the mayor.
In Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim country, schoolchildren spend an average of three hours a day on the Internet, according to a recent study. Bandung is located on the island of Java and has about 2.5 million inhabitants.
