(CNN Spanish) - Seventy members of the public force among police and military, 14 women among them, "were brutally assaulted" on the day of protests nationwide, according to Colombian Defense Minister Carlos Holmes Trujillo.

This Friday, early in the morning, the minister appeared before the press at the General Directorate of the Colombian Police to summarize the unemployment day of November 21 in Colombia.

In his official report, Trujillo said that the main cities of Colombia have already “recovered tranquility,” and that local authorities guarantee public order with the exception of the town of Suba, a district north of Bogotá, and in Cali, where The public force continues to work.

In the opinion of the Minister of Defense, both military and police officers fulfilled their duty to face what he called violent, "through the legitimate use of force", and celebrated that the public force guaranteed the right of Colombians to "demonstrate peacefully and democratically ”throughout the country.

The president of Colombia, Iván Duque, said that “dozens of criminals have been captured. We reject the damage that vandalism and pillage threw today. ”

“The events that occurred after the march, are pure vandalism and do not obey an expression of popular will, nor will they be legitimized by the right to protest. We will not allow looting or attacks against private property. And we are going to apply the full weight of the law, ”said Duque.
