Syria is participating in the 40th session of the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), which will run until the 27th of this month in Paris.
Minister Al-Azab and his accompanying delegation also held an extensive meeting with the Assistant Director-General of the Culture Sector in the Organization, Ernesto Aten, during which he stressed the need to work on the return of Syrian artifacts stolen by terrorist organizations and to stop illegal excavations carried out by the Syrian government. The necessary support for the experts and specialists of the Organization in this field.
For their part, the delegates appreciated Syria's position and commitment to participate in the conference, despite the French government's attempt to block entry attributes of the Syrian delegation contrary to the headquarters agreement signed.
The meeting was attended by Syria's Permanent Representative to UNESCO Ambassador Lamia Shakour, Assistant to the Minister of Education Dr. Farah Al-Mutlaq, Assistant to the Minister of Higher Education Dr. Riad Tayfour, Director General of Antiquities and Museums Dr. Mahmoud Hammoud, Advisor to the Minister of Education Tamam Hilal and Secretary of the National Committee of UNESCO Dr. Nidal Hassan.
At the fortieth session of the General Conference, Member States will have to adopt an international convention aimed at facilitating the recognition of higher education qualifications and the free movement of students and teachers.
