Lord Alton, a member of the British House of Lords, posted a letter on Facebook on November 23, saying that he was invited by a democratic group in Hong Kong to monitor Hong Kong's district board elections on the 24th.

The Inter-Party Group of the British Parliament announced on November 19 that the Westminster Award for Human Rights, Human Life and Human Dignify was awarded to the Hong Kong Public Interest Secretary, Huang Zhifeng. Alton wrote in the article that Huang Zhifeng was banned from leaving Hong Kong, so he decided to bring the award to Hong Kong.

He wrote at the end of the article that holding an election cannot end the violence in Hong Kong, but it will make the average Hong Kong people and the square. He pointed out that the abolition of those elections will only strengthen the outside world's view that Hong Kong is farther away from democracy.

Alton has expressed his position on the Hong Kong issue more than once during the anti-Fugitives Regulations amendment campaign. Last week, three British parliamentarians including Alton wrote to the President of the University of Cambridge, the Vice-Chancellor and the Dean of Wolfson College, asking the institution to take back the honorary academician of Hong Kong Chief Executive Lin Zhengyue, thinking that she is a tough person. The way triggered a huge crisis in Hong Kong, there is no reason to continue to have the honorary academician title.
