Tens of thousands of people took to the streets of Paris and a number of French cities today to protest against domestic violence after more than 130 women were killed by their partners in France this year.
The protesters in Paris, mostly women, chanted slogans against domestic violence and waved scarlet banners with the slogans saying "Enough killed."
The demonstrations, led by the women's association All Us, come two days before the government is due to publish the results of an investigation into domestic violence in the country.
A European Council expert group on domestic violence said a few days ago that France needed to provide better protection for victims and their children and take more effective action to combat the violence.
“We cannot continue to accept today the killing of women with complete impunity,” said Karen Blasar, an activist at the association. “The state must do its part to ensure the security of all women in this country.”
