London (CNN Business) - What if the best deals are not really on Black Friday?

A survey of 83 products for sale during last year's shopping bonanza in the United Kingdom found that 95% was available at the same price or cheaper for the next six months.

An independent consumer advocacy group tracked the price of 49 products from the Currys PC World electronic retail store, 20 from Amazon, 12 from the John Lewis department store group and two from Boots, a health, beauty and pharmacy chain.

In addition to getting better deals in the months after Black Friday, the study found that more than 60% of the products had been offered for the same price or cheaper before November 29.

"Consistently low prices are not a bad thing, but it means you should feel less pressured to buy on Black Friday," said the consumer group.

"Take the offers described as 'limited time' very carefully, since it is probably not the last chance you have to buy a product at that price," the consumer advocacy group recommended.

The study could diminish enthusiasm in Britain for Black Friday, which has been imported from the United States and adopted by buyers and retailers alike in the last decade.

According to the PwC audit firm, 52% of UK consumers are interested in Black Friday this year.

While there is skepticism about whether the bargains are genuine, the British are expected to spend £ 224 ($ 288) on average during Black Friday and Cyber Monday. That is an increase of £ 21 ($ 27) compared to 2018.

PwC said participating in Black Friday is essential for technology and electronics retailers, for whom the weekend has surpassed traditional UK sales on Boxing Day (December 26) as the biggest shopping event of the year.

Amazon said in a statement that it seeks to offer "great value thanks to low prices throughout the year."

"Our Black Friday sale is about thousands of offers in a large selection of products from all categories throughout the site, at a time of the year when we know that saving money is important for our customers," he said.

"And the best thing about buying online is that customers can easily compare prices, allowing them to make an informed purchase decision," Amazon added.

Boots, owned by the Walgreens Boots Alliance, said in a statement that it was working to "ensure that we are giving our customers the best value for their money."

Currys PC World and John Lewis did not respond to requests for comment.
