Police in Istanbul use tear gas against women's demo

In Istanbul, the police have violently dissolved a demo for women's rights. Security forces used tear gas against the demonstrators. They had demonstrated against violence against women.



In Istanbul, many people protested against violence against women. The police used tear gas on Monday night's rally and ended the protest on Istiklal's central shopping street, as video footage and eyewitnesses reported.

The news agency AFP reported, citing a photographer also of plastic shooters who had been fired. A confirmation for this there is not yet. The number of participants varies, varying between several hundred and two thousand.

The demonstrators had previously gathered peacefully for the International Day Against Violence against Women.
