The Chinese side pointed out that Zheng Wenjie was arrested by Luohu Police in Shenzhen, China, on August 9, 2019. According to Article 66 of the Law of the People's Republic of China on Administrative Penalties for Public Security, Zheng was sentenced to 15 days of administrative detention by the police. In order to protect Zheng's privacy, at his request, the police did not notify his family members of his behavior in accordance with the law.
The Chinese side emphasized that during Zheng Wenjie's detention, the police protected his various legal rights and interests in accordance with the law, and there was no such thing as extortion of torture by himself and the British side. According to Chinese public security organs' procedures for handling administrative cases, Zheng Wenjie had a comprehensive physical examination before his release on August 24, and he was in good health. Zheng Wenjie's case is clear and the evidence is conclusive, Zheng Wenjie confessed. The actions of Chinese law enforcement agencies are completely reasonable and legal.
The Chinese side has criticized the British for disregarding the facts, reversing black and white, and maliciously discrediting the normal law enforcement of the Chinese law enforcement agencies. The Chinese side expresses its strong dissatisfaction and resolute opposition, and demands that the British side immediately and publicly correct its mistakes.
