Fifteen Syrian teams will participate in the African and Arab Programming Championships scheduled to be held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt on Saturday and Sunday 30-11 and 1-12-2019.

In a statement, SANA noted that 140 teams from around 70 universities are participating in the tournament at both the experimental and official levels, which include a range of issues that require a high level of analysis, logical thinking and software algorithms.

The Commission explained that the Syrian teams represent the universities of Damascus, Baath, Tishreen and Aleppo, the Virtual University and the Higher Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology, in addition to a technical team involved in organizing and judging the tournament.

The winning teams qualify for the World Programming Championship in Russia in 2020.

The team of the Syrian Virtual University "Radio Active" won the African Championship and Arab Programming Cup last year in the Egyptian city of Sharm el-Sheikh as well as the 21st in the world in the World Programming Championship held in the Portuguese city of Porto last April.

The competition is a way to bring together the smartest programmers from various universities and scientific institutions around the world and aims to promote creativity and teamwork, encourage new ways of building new software, enable students to test their abilities and performance under pressure and provide training and employment opportunities for large companies.

The software contest is called War of Minds and is more than just academic and technological competition. It has become the groundwork for building a more collaborative global information society. Participants are not only required to solve issues but to devise smart and effective ways of solving.
