The Iranian Ministry of Security has announced the arrest of agents of the US intelligence agency who were collecting information about the riots and transmitting them abroad.
"A number of elements who were trying to gather information about the riots were disclosed and transmitted abroad for submission to foreigners and were arrested before taking any action," the ministry said in a statement.
"The said agents, who have been trained to gather information in various countries under the cover of CIA correspondents, have been under surveillance by Iranian security for some time, and after the escalation of the riots, they were ordered to be present in these places," the statement said. The statement said that six of these elements were arrested while they were in the places where the riots and the implementation of the orders issued to them by the US intelligence service, while two others were arrested early to collect information and were planning to leave the country, but they were disclosed and arrested before that.
The deputy commander-in-chief of Iran's Revolutionary Guards, Admiral Ali Fadavi, announced last Sunday that Iran had obtained evidence showing the involvement of the United States, France, Britain, Germany and the Saudi regime in provoking the recent riots and unrest in the country.
