At about 11:00 pm yesterday (27th), a number of riot police officers reportedly appeared on the Maanshan Promenade, intercepted the people present, and took away a number of teenagers. Sources said that some young people, including children, had been intercepted and arrested after leaving the nearby malls after participating in the "18 District Shopping Malls and You Sing" event.
Several district councillors subsequently went to the Ma On Shan Police Station to follow up the incident. Among them, Ding Shiyuan, a member of the Jinying constituency, posted a post on his Facebook at 2 am today, saying that after he contacted the police with Wuxisha constituency Li Yongcheng, Seven men and one girl were known to have been arrested in the incident. The arrested men and women were charged with "criminal destruction" and "possessing offensive weapons". "Hong Kong 01" is consulting the police on the incident.
The original post is as follows:
It was late to follow up with students arrested on the promenade! I contacted the police with Mr LEE Wing-sing and received a reply. The contents were as follows:
"Tonight, a total of seven men and one woman were arrested in Ma On Shan by members of the New Territories South Charge Group for suspected criminal damage and possession of offensive weapons. Shatin Police District Criminal Investigation Team is taking over the investigation.
As the arrested persons were under 16 years old, police officers would contact the parents concerned to come to the police station. As always, the police district will ensure that all arrested persons are treated fairly during investigations. "
We will continue to follow up the incident! Special thanks to all the social workers who assisted you on the spot, for your hard work.
