Among them, IT-related complaints increased significantly, with a total of 504 cases, an increase of 102% compared with 2017 to 2018, and many of them related to the disclosure or leakage of personal data on the Internet. Of the 504 cases, 143 were related to Cathay Pacific ’s breach of customer personal data.

As for the 1,878 complaints, of the 1,878 complaints received, 2,554 violated the provisions of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance; more than 70% or 1,348 were related to banks and finance companies, property management companies, transportation Among the transport companies, 305 were personal complaints and the other 225 were related to government departments and public agencies, such as the Police Force.

The Office received 113 reports of data leakage incidents and conducted a regulatory review of each incident. Although the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance does not require data users to report data leakage incidents, the figures show that the number of data leakage incidents reported by public organizations increased by 65% ​​year-on-year, reflecting that public organizations are more private Willing to report data leaks proactively.

As for the number of notifications from the private sector, which fell 34% year-on-year in the reporting year, it included a major data breach involving airlines involving 9.4 million passengers.
