The Economic Committee at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers approved a proposal to support the manufacture of raw materials that enter into the industries of detergents, ceramics, transformers and batteries in order to provide the needs of these industries and enable them locally and dispense with imports by granting facilities and incentives for the establishment of industrial projects necessary to implement them.
A memorandum prepared by the Ministry of Industry included the reality of the alkyl benzene industry, which is the main material in the detergent industry, which results from the integration of benzene with paraffin wax with an added value of 30 percent. For two plants that sulfonize the imported benzene.
The memorandum (SANA Economic obtained a copy of it) included several proposals, including addressing the Central Bank of Syria to obtain the loans data of the owner of the Alkyl benzene plant, which has been suspended since 2008 due to lack of liquidity, and to identify the difficulties facing the operation of the plant and to find the necessary solutions to restart the plant as soon as possible.
In the event that it is not possible to restart the said plant, the ministry suggested that the Investment Authority should present this project as an investment opportunity in addition to providing facilities to establish factories for the manufacture of alkyl benzene such as subsidizing interest rates of loans and facilitating the acquisition of land.
In a statement to the SANA Economic Bulletin, the general manager of the detergent industry “Sar” chemical company Hisham Al-Freij said that alkyl benzene is a petrochemical product used in the production of sulfonic acid used in the manufacture of liquid and detergent industrial, pointing out the importance of this recommendation to support the alkyl benzene industry as a strategic industry provides The needs of dozens of detergent laboratories.
Al-Fereej pointed out that the factories are limited in Syria, including the Saar factory at its headquarters in Tal Kurdi, which was sabotaged by terrorists, pointing to the need to expedite the rehabilitation of the company's headquarters and the factory and re-operating the sulphony again by providing the necessary financial liquidity for this plant and contribute to the local market. Sulfonic acid, which can be produced in large quantities to achieve profits for the company or the implementation of the feasibility study prepared in this regard for a new sulfurization plant at the company's headquarters with a capacity of 40 tons per day and funded through loans granted to the company or through partnership with a private sector.
