(CNN) - Two powerful storms are leaving much of the United States struggling with blackouts, no visibility and gusty winds on Thanksgiving, and the nightmare could continue in some areas until the holiday weekend.

The weather was so chaotic with both storms that at one point 32 states were under some kind of alert, warning or weather warning.

A system hit the western states with rain along the coast and heavy snowfall in the mountains. While on the other coast, another storm threw snow and the strong winds left without electricity. At one point, on Wednesday night, almost 300,000 homes and businesses had no electricity across the country, primarily in Michigan, Ohio and California, according to the public service tracking site poweroutage.us.

The weather pattern remains active during the holiday weekend, said the National Weather Service.

"The widespread winter weather, flash floods and wind alerts, and warnings are currently in effect ... in much of the nation," he said.

By early Thursday, more than 200 flights had been canceled in the United States and almost 2,000 delayed, according to FlightAware.

Millions under threat

The storm in western USA UU. It has left more than 20 million people under a winter threat, said CNN meteorologist Gene Norman.

As it moves towards the coast this Saturday and Sunday, it could ruin trips to Monday's trip after bringing an ice threat in the middle of the country on Thursday and Friday, he said.

“Thanksgiving Day 2019 will be remembered as a stormy day for many in the west. A lot of hazards will continue to develop eastward throughout the country over the weekend, ”said the National Weather Service.

Winter storm alerts, warnings and warnings touch parts of each western state from Arizona to Montana. The storm set low pressure records in November in parts of Oregon and northern California, the National Weather Service said.

In Arizona, the weather service warned of "impossible travel conditions" on Thursday and early Friday morning with heavy, floating snow.

Heavy rains will also pose a threat of flash floods in southern California on Thanksgiving, and in the southwest at the beginning of Friday, the weather service said.

In Santa Barbara County, officials warned that heavy rains could cause dangerous debris flows near areas burned this week by the Cave fire. "If a flow of debris occurs and it is not safe to leave, or you cannot do it, go to high ground," said the county.

City officials declared a snow emergency in Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesotta, on Wednesday.

Thanksgiving Day Parade

The weather could affect an iconic annual tradition. The mayor of New York, Bill de Blasio, hopes that the weather does not lower the balloons of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

"I keep my fingers crossed, I ask everyone: keep New York City in your thoughts and prayers so that the wind stays calm and we can let these balloons fly," De Blasio said Wednesday while the balloons were inflated. "We have hope. We have hope".

Balloons cannot be flown when sustained winds exceed 37 km / h and gusts exceed 54 km / h, according to New York City regulations. In 1997, the Jack in the Hat balloon wounded four people after strong winds forced him to go astray.

Christina Maxouris, Amanda Watts, Judson Jones, Holly Yan and Joe Sutton of CNN contributed to this report.
