Russian President Vladimir Putin reaffirmed Russia's stand in support of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and the establishment of an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
"Russia, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council and a participant in the international Quartet for the settlement of the Middle East," said Putin in a telegram to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, read by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin during a ceremony in Moscow on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. It always supports the realization of the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people.
For his part, Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres in a telegram on the occasion that the illegal Israeli settlement in the occupied Palestinian territories undermines the chances of settlement in the region.
For his part, Palestinian Deputy Prime Minister Ziad Abu Amr expressed his appreciation to Russia for its support and solidarity with the rights of the Palestinian people, adding that the Israeli aggression would not have been possible without the US administration's bias towards the occupation entity, which makes the conflict with it open until the realization of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
He pointed out that the Palestinian issue requires the international community to work to hold Israeli occupation officials accountable for their crimes and to protect the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people based on the laws and resolutions of international legitimacy.
The General Assembly of the United Nations issued a resolution to divide Palestine on this day in 1947 under the number 181 in response to great pressure exerted by the Zionist circles and Western countries associated with the Zionist project.
