New Delhi (CNN) - Four men confessed the group rape and murder of a 27-year-old woman who was set on fire, according to police in the Indian city of Hyderabad.
The woman was a veterinarian and the incident took place on November 27, R. Venkatesh, police inspector at the Shamshabad police station in Hyderabad, told CNN.
“Four people have been arrested and have confessed a sexual attack against the victim. Because of the sexual assault and strength, she became semi-conscious, ”he said.
Indian police officers inspect the site where they found the burned body of a 27-year-old woman under a bridge on the outskirts of Hyderabad.
"They put her body in a truck and took her to a different place where they placed her body under the bridge and threw diesel fuel and gasoline on the body and burned it," Venkatesh added.
A medical examination could not conclude that the woman had been raped due to extensive burns on the remains.
The woman was not identified, since India has strict laws that protect the anonymity of victims of sexual assault.
The four men were to appear before a local district court this Saturday to be charged.
The Indian legal system could allow the four men to request a trial or simply be sentenced for the crime at a later date.
