While the use of submarines for smuggling drugs has become widespread in South America, and the US Coast Guard has already encountered this threat once or twice, finding a European submarine drug submarine shows an increase in South American cartel capabilities.
The Spanish Coast Guard captured the 22-foot submarine near Spain's western coast and confiscated three tons of cocaine. It is estimated that the submarine sailed from Guyana on the Atlantic coast and crossed the ocean. Two Ecuadorian citizens were captured on board, and a third man fled.
Submarine capture for drug smuggling
The US Coast Guard has already captured three such submarines, with in one case ten tons of cocaine worth $ 300 million. In addition, at least 19 more submarines were trapped in Colombia in the Pacific.
It has so far been unclear whether these submarines, which in any case do not provide favorable conditions for their crews, are capable of doing a transatlantic journey, although it should be noted that of the dozens of drug submarines captured so far, this submarine is the longest captured.
