The veteran diners of the mythical Cafe Paula in Rishon Lezion must have noticed the design change that has taken place recently. The old restaurant, considered an institution in the city, has recently undergone a short but intense renovation by interior designer Sharon Ernie, who has returned to the arena where she feels at home.

"Rishon Lezion is my mother's hometown and my hometown. The city even has a street named after my grandfather," Sharon says. "Cafe Paula" is a beloved restaurant that I have already renovated twice over the years. At the end of one of the renovations, two pictures of my beloved grandparents who were from the landowners came to know Ben Gurion and Paula his wife, named after the restaurant. One is a picture of my grandmother with Paula Ben Gurion, And the second - of David Ben-Gurion with a group of people, among whom are also my grandparents. "

In the current renovation, restaurant owners sought to allow some of the central space to be closed for the purpose of creating a VIP room. For this purpose, the designer designed a special mobile partition. "The idea of the partition is to allow flexibility. When it's open, the restaurant space is large and when closed - the space beyond it becomes an event room for all implied, with a direct connection to the kitchen."

Sharon was also asked to "rejuvenate" the place, without changing his original favorite of old and regular customers. "Considering the stylistic line associated with 'Paula' and the intention of refreshing it, I incorporated iron items such as nets and planters into climbing plants. I added sitting area seating and wallpaper on bold prints, inspired by nature elements. Also, I incorporated a lot of green natural vegetation into the part of the greenery." .

The restaurant courtyard has also been refreshed, from the menu to the design. The Paula Garden was given a new Street Food style menu. Regarding the design, the restaurant owners asked for a waiters position to operate the yard without the need for repeated running to the far kitchen. To that end, and inspired by the new menu, the designer has designed a creative pod-shaped stand that serves as a beer bar and waiters stand, and creates a magical young atmosphere.

The structure is made of iron construction and is covered with various types of tin that have been combined in the shape of patches. Also, on one of the walls of the building which was "characterless", a green wall was combined with a variety of plants and in the center was placed a huge screen where clips and basketball and football games are projected. For completion, designed and added around elevated bar tables, roofing and vegetation. The lighting and sound theme was also addressed to create a perfect experience for the guests.

"The renovation itself was very quick and done in just four intensive days, in collaboration with great professionals," concludes Sharon. "During the renovation, I got to know in depth the previous partners and now the new owners of the place. Every day a business does not cause any economic damage to its owners, so the renovation had to be completed quickly. And on a pre-determined date, the restaurant was closed for just four days - and all the pieces connected. " She adds: "As part of the renovation, both my grandparents' photos have been given new locations in the space. This certainly makes the project and the restaurant in general close to my heart."
