(CNN Spanish) - Lionel Messi has done it again. He has written a new chapter to his legend in football, this time by breaking a mark that no other player in history had achieved, by adding his sixth Golden Ball to his medal winners.

With all the forecasts in its favor, the Argentine star won the prestigious award granted by France Football magazine on Monday.

Messi arrived accompanied to the French capital of his wife Antonella Rocuzzo and two of his sons, Thiago and Mateo, at the 64th installment of this award that highlights the best footballer of each season.

Messi was champion of the Spanish league last year and added 36 goals in that competition, which earned him the sixth golden boot.

This in addition to his performance on the court earned him the most prestigious award at the individual level in the world of football.

The other finalists on the podium were Virgil Van Dijk, in second place; Cristiano Ronaldo, in third place; and Sadio Mané, in the fourth place.
