Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping today inaugurated a video call to start pumping Russian gas to China through the Siberian power pipeline.
Putin, in a statement quoted by Russia website today, described the project as an important event for the world energy market and for the Russian and Chinese people.
For his part, the Chinese president expressed his delight at the launch of this grand project, which is a testament to the depth of strategic relations and cooperation between Russia and China.
The total length of the Siberian power pipeline is about 3,000 kilometers and will transport gas from the gas production centers in Irkutsk and Yakutia to the Russian Far East and China.
The Russian company Gazprom signed at the end of May 2014 with the China National Oil Company purchase-sale contract for the supply of Russian gas to China through the eastern corridor for 30 years, where the contract provided for the supply of 38 billion cubic meters of gas annually.
