As part of the Civil Administration's fight against protected animal trafficking, customs inspectors on Tuesday, in cooperation with the Allenby Bridge Authority and the Civil Administration officers, thwarted an original attempt at smuggling wild-type wild birds from Jordan to Hebron.
During the operation at the terminal, the security guards noticed a strange bump in the pants of a Palestinian resident. This aroused their suspicion, and upon examination, it was discovered that he had tried to smuggle 14 jugs, pinned to his feet under the pantyhose he was wearing, using a net. He was immediately detained by airport security guards and the Civil and Natural Parks Conservation Coordinator, and taken to police custody. During the interrogation, the Palestinian admitted to purchasing the jewels in Jordan with a view to selling them in Hebron.
Allenby Bridge Commander Major Hadi Khatib: "We see this smuggling experience very seriously. Animal trafficking is not possible. Thanks to our teachings, today, a cruel act is contrary to the law. We will continue to work together with all the parties - to combat the alarming phenomenon and to eradicate it. "
