Police in Sham Shui Po crack down on illegal online casino

Yesterday (2nd), members of the Special Duty Squad of Sham Shui Po Police District conducted an anti-illegal gambling operation at about 11.55 pm, raided a unit at 145-149 Cheung Sha Wan Road, Cheung Sha Wan, and smashed a suspected illegal online casino. During the operation, officers arrested one man and two women, aged between 45 and 57. Among them, a 57-year-old woman named Liu local was suspected of "administering the casino

Yesterday (2nd), members of the Special Duty Squad of Sham Shui Po Police District conducted an anti-illegal gambling operation at about 11.55 pm, raided a unit at 145-149 Cheung Sha Wan Road, Cheung Sha Wan, and smashed a suspected illegal online casino. During the operation, officers arrested one man and two women, aged between 45 and 57. Among them, a 57-year-old woman named Liu local was arrested for "managing gambling establishments"; another man and a woman, aged 45 to 48, were arrested for "gambling in gambling establishments".

A total of about 21,000 yuan in cash, a computer, five televisions and chips were seized by the police; all arrested persons are being detained for investigation.

Under the Gambling Ordinance, anyone who runs a casino at any time commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a maximum fine of $ 5,000,000 and imprisonment for 7 years. Anyone who "gambles in a casino" commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a maximum fine of $ 30,000 and to imprisonment for 9 months.
