The General Authority for Water Resources has started the implementation of a project to remove and rehabilitate the watercourse at the end of the sewage axis from Jaramana city in Damascus countryside to Al-A'waj river with a length of 14 km in order to raise pollution and discharge the accumulated water in agricultural lands.

The project is an emergency solution pending the implementation of a treatment plant in the city of Jaramana and adjacent areas. It aims, according to the director of water resources in Damascus and its countryside, Engineer Mahmoud Al-Ka'ar, to open and trim the waterway from the city passing through Shebaa and its surrounding areas to prevent the accumulation of wastewater in swamps within agricultural lands and flooding on population centers.

The project is divided into two phases, as Al-Ka'ar explained to the first SANA with a length of 4 km from the end of Jaramana city estuary. It is executed under a contract between the Ministry of Water Resources and the Military Construction Execution Institution, which is a dirt canal with regular ferries in places of intersections with roads in addition to concrete pipes of 140 cm diameter within residential areas.

The second phase is 10 km long from the helix river to the Aouaj river, through Qarahata and Qurmishiya, according to Al Ka'ar, which confirmed that work is underway at a high pace to complete the project as soon as possible.
