(CNN Spanish) - The alleged drug trafficker César Emilio Peralta, who was the most wanted person in the Dominican Republic, was captured in Colombia on Monday after eluding the authorities for almost four months. The arrest of who is also known as “César, the abuser” was reported by Jean Alain Rodríguez, attorney of the Dominican Republic.

At a press conference, Rodriguez said Peralta had remained in the country, but in recent days he fled by sea from the province of Pedernales to Bocagrande in Cartagena, Colombia, where he was finally arrested by the police in that country. According to Dominican authorities, Peralta is accused of leading a powerful network of drug trafficking and money laundering that transported large quantities of narcotics to the United States and Europe.

Peralta was in Colombia since last weekend, according to local authorities, who had the collaboration of the Colombian police and the coordination of local and US authorities. They also indicated that four other people were arrested along with Peralta, three of Colombian nationality and the remaining from the Dominican Republic. None have been identified, according to the president of the National Drug Control Directorate, Felix Alburquerque Comprés.

With the arrest of César Emilio Peralta, there are 18 prisoners, including five people designated as ringleaders for their connection to that organization of organized crime, of which three have been extradited to the United States, one is in the process of extradition to that nation, while the others have different measures of coercion, according to the Dominican Republic attorney.

At the moment, the Dominican authorities do not confirm whether Peralta will be extradited to the United States directly or if he will be taken to the Dominican Republic to answer for the charges against him on the island.

CNN does not know if César Emilio Peralta has legal representation.
